- In 1939 I won the class for Boys Singing in the festival. Although my memory of recent events is poor, I can still clearly remember standing outside the old YMCA building in Cambridge where the festival had been held and being congratulated by Albert Cox, who had been an outstanding performer in that year's event. He told me never to forget that there is always someone who is better than you and that if you have a gift you must use it. That advice has stayed with me ever since.
